Sangeetha Kannada Koota of Minnesota, USA, started
in 1976, is a cultural oriented organization which thrives by cultivating
literary, educational, social, recreational and cultural activities
for the Kannada community of Minnesota. It is a voluntary organization
primarily run by donations and memberships from interested people.
KannadaKoota has a long way in achieving its
objectives and in expanding its activities to new horizons. It also
works closely with many other charity organizations to promote collection
of funds for humanitarian causes. In its march into the 25th year,
KK is a fully grown juvenile, nurtured and developed by great Kannada
community of Minnesota. To bring a sense of festivity into otherwise
routine lifestyle, four major festivals are celebrated as part of
KK activities. These festivals are Sankrani, Yugadi, Ganesh Chathurti
and Deepavali. These occasions set a stage for Kannada people to
meet others of their own community and network. They also provide
an opportunity for the children who are brought up here to inculcate
many values these festivals bring along with them. Parents get an
opportunity to involve themselves and their children in various
KK activities and expose their children to the rich culture and
traditions of Karnataka.
Apart from cultural get together, KK has its fun part
also. The yearly picnic and sports day are the times for fun and
games. They provide break from sluggish winter. The day is also
a test of physical fitness and fun. Members get to participate in
various games and avoid low fat food for a day.
In summary, KK's long history is entirely attributed
to the dedicated people who have voluntarily taken responsibilities
to sustain and grow the objectives of KannadaKoota. The involvement
of every Kannadiga of Minnesota in KK's mainstream activities would
only enhance and enrich Kannada's culture and the community's strength. |
